CC October Meme

Ok.  I have been a bit remiss in October as a blogger and a reader due to some major changes going on here, but I thought I should take a moment and answer the Question of the Month for the Classics Club Meme.

Why are you reading the classics?

  1. I love to read.
  2. I would like to get to books not covered during my education (or re-read those I loved again).
  3. To see what the hubbub is all about.
  4. I want to challenge myself to stretch my reading tastes which have seemed to be focused intently on fantasy/sci-fi in the last few years.
  5. As a writer, it is helpful to observe and study different writing styles and plotting techniques.  I really love examining an author’s use of language.

There is really no special reason.  At the beginning of the year I started to consider where I wanted to focus my reading attention.  Since my focus has been almost consumed by one genre and usually newer titles (less than ten years old), I wanted to push out and rediscover books that have been around for a long time.  Why not see what makes a book last through the years…?
